Hanoi (VNA) – the Ministry of transportation coordinates with relevant ministries and agencies to develop a portfolio of transport projects and specific mechanisms for the implementation of projects that will be part of the post-COVID-19 government’s socio-economic recovery and development program, according to Minister Nguyen Van The.

The program will be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration at its first meeting in 2022, The told the Vietnamese news agency.

Provided that projects are given priority in the allocation of investments so that construction can start early, this will give a major boost to the resumption of production, stimulate the growth of trade and services and improve the living conditions of people, noted the Minister of Transport.

Transport infrastructure development would play a role in the rapid revival of other economic sectors, by accelerating the disbursements of public investments and by providing the necessary leverage for the GDP growth, he said, adding that Vietnam aims to have around 5,000 km of highways by 2030, as provided for in the resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.

The 729 km east section of the north-south highway is among the country’s six major projects from 2021 to 2025, he said, describing it as a particularly important project that has received special attention from the government, the Prime Minister and the public.

According to the minister, the project has a total investment of nearly 147,000 billion VND (6.43 billion USD). It will be divided into 12 key components developed separately under the public-private partnership (PPP). This should help boost Vietnam’s post-pandemic economic recovery, he said. /.
