Leverage data the right way to add value in healthcare
UAE – Collecting data, in itself, is the first step towards creating a highly functional ecosystem that meets the needs of the community.
What should come next is a system that properly leverages this data to identify stress points and achieve new innovations that improve patient care, says Ali Alajme, Director of Digital Health, Ministry of Health and Prevention, United Arab Emirates.
Speaking at the second edition of the Middle East Digital Health Forum on Thursday, he said new policies needed to be introduced, based on proper analysis of data collected with permission from patients. Technologies such as artificial intelligence, he added, are increasingly being used in this mission.
“According to Forbes, public and private investment in AI technology is expected to increase to $6.6 billion by 2021. Additionally, the AI market is expected to register a compound annual growth rate of 40 % until 2021,” he said. “All of this is a clear indication that AI will become increasingly important for clinical decision-making.”
“The future will see more virtual hospitals, telemedicine will strengthen doctor-patient relationships and will also be used more frequently to reduce the spread of infectious diseases,” he added.
Dr. Younis Kazim, CEO of Dubai Healthcare Corporation, observed that the positive role of modern technology in revolutionizing healthcare operations in Dubai over the past few years is not only benefiting healthcare workers, but also helping individual patients and the community as a whole.
“The electronic health record system has now become the powerhouse of international best practice for clinicians and has successfully supported the continuity of patient care needs across different healthcare facilities and organizations,” he said. . “Digital health also improves easy access to essential health data and information, enabling patients and their families to seek better and safer care options at any time and to actively participate in preventive actions and decisions. treatment.”
