WASHINGTON, DC – The House Agriculture Committee voted unanimously to advance the WHIP + 2020 Reauthorization Act in recent committee markup.
“The expansion of the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus is essential for our farm families who suffered losses due to a disaster in 2020 and 2021,” said Congressman David Rouzer (NC-07). “Specifically, Hurricane Isaias inflicted severe damage in Southeastern North Carolina in 2020, resulting in $ 29 million in farm losses not covered by insurance for which producers received no assistance. get well. The Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus (WHIP +) and a previous program provided the additional help producers needed for the 2017-2019 production losses, but this help was not available for the 2020 and 2021 losses.
The bill that was passed by the House Agriculture Committee last week, HR 267, 2020 WHIP + Reauthorization Act, included a Nature of a Surrogate (ANS) amendment that will extend WHIP + for 2020 and 2021. The bill also includes key reforms to improve the cumbersome application process that delayed the program in 2018 and 2019.
